    Opens First Health Club

    At age 21, Jack opens the nation's first modern health club in Oakland, CA — complete with a gym, juice bar, and health food store. Doctors called it "dangerous."

    1951

    The Jack LaLanne Show Premieres

    Jack's daily fitness TV show launches — the longest-running fitness program in television history, inspiring millions across America to get moving.

    1954

    Sets First World Record

    Jack performs 1,033 push-ups in 23 minutes, setting one of his legendary world records and proving that fitness knows no limits.

    1959

    Swims the Golden Gate

    Jack swims the full length of the San Francisco Bay — from Alcatraz to the shore — handcuffed and shackled. Age 45.

    1974

    Swims Handcuffed Towing 70 Boats

    At age 60, Jack swims 1.5 miles in Long Beach Harbor, handcuffed, towing 70 rowboats carrying 70 people. A defining feat of human will.

    1984

    Tows 65 Boats on 65th Birthday

    Jack celebrates his 65th birthday by towing 65 boats with 6,500 lbs of Louisana wood pulp across a lake — handcuffed and shackled — in Japan.

    1992

    Inducted into Fitness Hall of Fame

    Jack receives the inaugural induction into the Fitness Hall of Fame, recognizing his unmatched contribution to the American wellness movement.

    2011

    A Legend Passes — A Legacy Lives On

    Jack LaLanne passes at age 96, still working out two hours a day until his final week. His message: "Your health is your wealth" lives forever.
